What can you do with PowerPoint 2019?
PowerPoint turns ideas into slide decks using themes, layouts, images, charts and video. Transitions and animations guide your audience, and Presenter View shows your notes and the next slide while the audience sees only the current one.
You can rehearse timings, record narration and export the deck as a PDF or video. Files use the standard .pptx format, so colleagues on other versions can open them.
New in PowerPoint 2019: Morph transitions, Zoom for moving between slides in any order, an icon library, 3D models and slide control with a digital pen.
Should I buy PowerPoint on its own or a full Office suite?
Buy PowerPoint 2019 on its own if PowerPoint is the only Office app you need. If you also need several other Office apps, an Office 2019 suite usually makes more sense than separate keys.
| Standalone PowerPoint 2019 | Office 2019 Professional Plus | Microsoft 365 | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Apps included | PowerPoint only | Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access and Publisher | Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and more |
| Payment | One time | One time | Monthly or yearly |
| Updates | None since 14 October 2025 | None since 14 October 2025 | New features added regularly |
| Devices | 1 PC at a time, via your Microsoft account | 1 Windows PC | Several devices, including Mac and mobile |
| Best for | You need only PowerPoint | You use several Office apps | You want the latest features and cloud storage |
A standalone app is the full desktop version, not a cut-down one. PowerPoint 2019 on its own has the same features as PowerPoint inside an Office 2019 suite.
What are the system requirements for PowerPoint 2019?
PowerPoint 2019 needs a Windows 11 PC with a 1.1 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM and 4 GB of free disk space. Microsoft lists the same minimums for the whole Office 2019 family, including standalone apps. If you need PowerPoint on a Mac, contact our support team before ordering to check which platform the key is for.
| Component | Minimum requirement |
|---|---|
| Operating system | Windows 11 |
| Processor | 1.1 GHz or faster, 2 cores |
| Memory (RAM) | 4 GB (64-bit); 2 GB (32-bit) |
| Storage | 4 GB of available disk space |
| Display | 1280 × 768 resolution |
| Graphics | DirectX 9 or later for hardware acceleration |
| Internet | Needed to redeem the key, sign in and install |
Microsoft's current requirements list Windows 11, as Windows 10 reached end of support on 14 October 2025. Full details are on Microsoft's Office system requirements page.
Is PowerPoint 2019 still supported?
No. Microsoft ended support for PowerPoint 2019 on 14 October 2025, together with the rest of Office 2019. The app still installs, activates and works, but it no longer receives security updates.
It can still make sense for offline PCs or to match an existing setup. For a supported version, we suggest PowerPoint 2024, which Microsoft supports until 9 October 2029.
How do I install and activate PowerPoint 2019?
Redeem the key to your Microsoft account first, then install PowerPoint from that account. The instructions in your order email walk you through it; in most cases the steps are:
- Go to
microsoft365.com/setupand sign in with your personal Microsoft account (or create one). - Enter the 25-character key from your email to add PowerPoint 2019 to that account.
- Open
account.microsoft.com/services(“Services & subscriptions”) and select Install. - Run the installer, open PowerPoint and sign in with the same account if asked.
- Check File → Account: it should show “Product Activated”.
A common problem we see is a clash with Office that's already on the PC. Microsoft doesn't support two Click-to-Run installations that contain the same app, so PowerPoint 2019 can't sit next to Microsoft 365 or another Office version that already includes PowerPoint. An older MSI-based install such as Office 2016 can also block setup, so remove it first.
What does a Retail key linked to a Microsoft account mean?
It means the licence is stored in your Microsoft account, not just on one PC. Redeeming the key is a one-time step; after that you install by signing in, as Microsoft explains in its guide to redeeming a product key.
That makes reinstalling simple after a Windows reset or when you replace your computer: sign in to Services & subscriptions and select Install again. The licence covers one PC at a time, so uninstall PowerPoint from the old computer first.
Use one personal Microsoft account and keep its sign-in details safe. If you redeem the key with a throwaway address or a work account, the licence can be hard to find later.
Frequently asked questions
Can I turn a presentation into a video with PowerPoint 2019?
Yes. Go to File → Export → Create a Video to save your slides, timings, narration and animations as an MP4 file. That's useful for sharing a presentation on a website or sending it to people who don't have PowerPoint installed.
Can I still use PowerPoint 2019 now that support has ended?
Yes. The app installs, activates and works as before. Since 14 October 2025, though, Microsoft no longer releases security updates for it, so it's best for offline or low-risk use. For a supported version, choose PowerPoint 2024, which gets updates until 9 October 2029.
Can I reinstall PowerPoint 2019 or move it to a new PC?
Yes. Because the Retail licence sits in your Microsoft account, you can sign in at account.microsoft.com/services and install it again after a reset or on a new PC. Uninstall it from the old computer first, because the licence covers one PC at a time.
Do I need Office installed to use PowerPoint 2019?
No. PowerPoint 2019 is a complete standalone app and installs on its own, without any other Office app. If the PC already has a different Office version that includes PowerPoint, remove it first, as explained in the installation section above.
