What's included in the Windows 11 Home and Office 2021 Standard bundle?
You get two licences, each with its own 25-character product key. The Windows key activates the operating system and the Office key activates the Office apps. The keys are independent, so activating one doesn't affect the other.
| Product | What it covers | Where you enter the key |
|---|---|---|
| Windows 11 Home | The operating system for 1 PC | Settings → System → Activation |
| Office 2021 Standard | Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and Publisher | In Word or Excel when prompted, or under File → Account |
Office 2021 Standard includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote and Publisher. Office 2021 is the last Office release that includes Publisher, which Microsoft is retiring.
Should I choose a Home or a Pro bundle?
Choose Home for everyday browsing, email and documents, and Pro if you need business tools such as BitLocker, Remote Desktop or Access databases. The table compares the two bundle types for Windows 11 and Office 2021.
| Feature | Home + Office Standard | Pro + Office Professional Plus |
|---|---|---|
| BitLocker drive encryption | No | Yes |
| Remote Desktop host (connect to this PC) | No | Yes |
| Hyper-V virtual machines | No | Yes |
| Join a company domain or Microsoft Entra ID | No | Yes |
| Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote | Yes | Yes |
| Access | No | Yes |
| Publisher | Yes | Yes |
This bundle is the Home option. If you later need Pro tools, Windows 11 Home can be upgraded in place with a Pro key, without reinstalling.
How long is Office 2021 supported?
Microsoft ends support for Office 2021 on 13 October 2026. After that date Office 2021 keeps working, but it no longer receives security updates. Windows 11 is not affected and keeps updating through Windows Update.
If a longer support window matters to you, the Office 2024 versions are supported until October 2029: compare all Windows + Office bundles. Microsoft lists the dates in its list of products reaching end of support in 2026.
What are the system requirements for this bundle?
The PC must meet the Windows 11 requirements, which are stricter than Office's: TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and a compatible 64-bit processor. In practice, a PC that runs Windows 11 also meets the minimums for Office 2021 Standard.
| Component | Windows 11 Home | Office 2021 Standard |
|---|---|---|
| Processor | 1 GHz or faster, 2 or more cores, compatible 64-bit CPU | 1.1 GHz or faster, 2 cores |
| Memory (RAM) | 4 GB | 4 GB |
| Storage | 64 GB | 4 GB free |
| Display | 720p, larger than 9" diagonal | 1280 × 768 |
| Other | TPM 2.0, UEFI with Secure Boot, DirectX 12 graphics | Internet access for installation and activation |
To check a PC, run Microsoft's PC Health Check app or read the official Windows 11 requirements.
In what order should I install and activate the two keys?
Activate Windows first, then install Office. That way, if you decide on a clean Windows install, you won't have to install Office twice.
- If needed, install Windows 11 from Microsoft's official media, then open Settings → System → Activation.
- Select Change product key, enter the Windows key from your order email and wait until it says "Windows is activated".
- Remove any older Office version or Microsoft 365 trial under Settings → Apps.
- Download Office 2021 Standard with the link in your order email and run the installer.
- Open Word or Excel, enter the Office key when asked, then check that File → Account shows "Product Activated".
The most common mix-up we see is entering the Office key in the Windows activation screen, or the other way round. Each key works only in its own product, so check which is which in your order email before you start.
Frequently asked questions
What happens to Office 2021 after October 2026?
It keeps working. After 13 October 2026 Microsoft stops releasing security updates for it, so documents still open and save normally, but newly found vulnerabilities are no longer fixed. If long-term support matters, Office 2024 is supported until October 2029.
Does Office 2021 Standard include Access?
No. Access is only included in Office Professional Plus. If you need to build or open Access databases, choose a Pro + Pro Plus bundle instead. The apps most people use every day, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, are all in Standard.
Can I use the Windows key and the Office key on different PCs?
Yes. They are two separate licences, so you can activate Windows on one PC and Office on another. Each key still activates only one PC, and Office needs a supported version of Windows on whichever computer you install it on.
Can I install the Office key from this bundle on a Mac?
No. The Office key in this bundle is for Office on Windows, and Mac editions of Office use different keys. If you use a Mac alongside a Windows PC, the Windows key and the Office key in this bundle both belong on the PC.
