How long will Word 2024 get security updates?
Microsoft supports Word 2024 until 9 October 2029. Until then it receives security and quality updates through Microsoft Update, but no new features.
Microsoft doesn't offer extended support for the 2024 release, so 9 October 2029 is the final date for fixes. After that, the app keeps working without further updates.
How do I install and activate Word 2024?
Download Word with the link in your order email, install it, then enter your 25-character product key when Word asks for it. Remove other Word versions first, because leftover installs are the most common reason setup or activation fails.
- Uninstall any other version of Word, or an Office suite that includes it, from Settings → Apps.
- Download Word 2024 using the link in your order email.
- Run the installer and wait until it finishes.
- Open Word and enter the product key from your email when asked.
- Check File → Account: it should show “Product Activated”.
A common problem we see is a clash with Office that's already on the PC. Microsoft doesn't support two Click-to-Run installations that contain the same app, so Word 2024 can't sit next to Microsoft 365 or another Office version that already includes Word. An older MSI-based install such as Office 2016 can also block setup, so remove it first.

Can Word 2024 open files from other Word versions?
Yes. Word 2024 uses the standard .docx format, so it opens files from Microsoft 365 and other recent Word versions, as well as older .doc files. You can also save any document as a PDF. Very new features from Microsoft 365 may display slightly differently.
Will Word 2024 get new features?
No. Word 2024 is a fixed release: Microsoft provides security and quality updates until 9 October 2029 but doesn't add new features. If you want new features as soon as they're released, a subscription such as Microsoft 365 is the alternative.
Can I move Word to a new PC later?
This key is for one PC. If you replace your computer, contact our support team with your order number before you uninstall from the old PC. Whether a transfer is possible depends on the licence type, so it's best to ask first.
Do I need Office installed to use Word 2024?
