What is LTSC, and how is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 different from regular Enterprise?
LTSC (Long-Term Servicing Channel) is a version of Windows Enterprise that doesn't change for years. It gets monthly security and quality updates but no feature updates, and it leaves out most of the in-box apps that Microsoft updates with new features. Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 is based on Windows 10, version 21H2.
| Enterprise LTSC 2021 | Windows 10 Enterprise (regular) | |
|---|---|---|
| Feature updates | None; a new LTSC release every few years | Yes, through Windows Update |
| Security updates | Until 12 January 2027 | Ended on 14 October 2025 |
| In-box apps and Microsoft Store | Most consumer apps left out; Store support limited | Included |
| Best for | Special-purpose PCs: lab, control and kiosk machines | Everyday office and business PCs |
Microsoft says LTSC isn't meant for most PCs in an organisation. It suits machines where stability matters more than new features and where installed software must keep working unchanged for years. For general office PCs, regular Pro or Enterprise is the better fit.
How long is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 supported?
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 receives monthly security updates until 12 January 2027, under Microsoft's Fixed Lifecycle Policy. It gets no feature updates in that time: the features you install on day one are the features you keep.
That date is not far off, so plan ahead for new deployments: Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024 is supported until 9 October 2029. After 12 January 2027, Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 keeps running but gets no more security updates.
You can check the dates on Microsoft's lifecycle page for Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021.
What are the system requirements for Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021?
Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 runs on almost any PC from the last decade. Microsoft's minimum is a 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit, and 32 GB of storage. Unlike Windows 11, it doesn't require TPM 2.0 or a recent processor, which makes it practical for older hardware.
| Component | Minimum requirement |
|---|---|
| Processor | 1 GHz or faster processor or SoC |
| Memory (RAM) | 1 GB (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit) |
| Storage | 32 GB or more |
| Graphics | DirectX 9 or later with WDDM 1.0 driver |
| Display | 800 × 600 |
| Internet | Needed for activation and updates |

How do I activate Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021?
LTSC is installed from its own installation media with a clean install. You can't turn an existing Home or Pro installation into LTSC by entering a key, so back up your files before you start.
- Download the installation media from the link in your order email and create a bootable USB drive.
- Start the PC from the USB drive and choose a custom (clean) installation.
- Enter the 25-character key when setup asks for it, or skip that step and add it afterwards.
- After setup, open Settings → Update & Security → Activation and select Change product key if the key isn't applied yet.
- Check that Activation says Windows is activated.
A common issue we see is an LTSC key entered on a normal Windows 10 installation. It won't activate there: the PC needs to be installed from LTSC media first.
Frequently asked questions
Does Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 get feature updates?
No. LTSC gets monthly security and quality updates only. New features arrive in a new LTSC release every few years, which you install separately. That's the point of LTSC: the system stays the same for its whole support period.
Can I use the Microsoft Store on LTSC?
LTSC leaves out most of the consumer in-box apps, and Microsoft says support for the Microsoft Store on LTSC may be limited. If you rely on Store apps, Windows 11 Pro is the better choice for that PC.
Can I switch my current Windows to LTSC with this key?
No. LTSC needs a clean install from LTSC media, and an LTSC key won't activate a Home, Pro or regular Enterprise installation. Back up your files, install from the download link in your order email, then activate.
How long will Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 get security updates?
Until 12 January 2027. After that date Windows keeps running, but Microsoft no longer releases security fixes for it. For a new deployment, consider the current release, Windows 11 Enterprise LTSC 2024, which is supported until 9 October 2029.
