What's the difference between Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise?

Enterprise includes everything in Pro and adds security and management features for organisations that manage many PCs centrally. For a single home or small-office PC, Pro is usually enough. Enterprise makes sense when an IT team needs features such as Credential Guard or AppLocker.

FeatureWindows 10 ProWindows 10 Enterprise
BitLocker drive encryptionYesYes
Windows SandboxYesYes
App Control for Business (WDAC)YesYes
Credential GuardNoYes
AppLockerNoYes
Always On VPN device tunnelNoYes

Credential Guard uses virtualisation-based security to isolate sign-in secrets, which makes credential-theft attacks much harder. AppLocker lets IT decide which apps and scripts users are allowed to run.

Enterprise is normally set up by upgrading a Pro PC. Microsoft supports switching from Pro to Enterprise by entering an Enterprise product key, with no reinstall.

How do I use this licence on 20 PCs?

This listing licenses Windows 10 Enterprise on 20 PCs. You activate each computer with the key details from your order email, one PC at a time, until all 20 are covered. If the email gives a separate key for each PC, use each key on one PC only.

Keep a simple list of which PC used which activation. A common issue we see is a pack used on more machines than it covers: once all 20 activations are used, the next PC will fail to activate. With 20 PCs, it pays to prepare all machines first and then activate them in one pass, checking each one under Activation before moving on.

Is Windows 10 still supported?

No. Microsoft ended support for Windows 10 Enterprise on 14 October 2025. Windows 10 still installs, activates and runs, but it no longer receives regular security updates or technical help from Microsoft.

Organisations can buy Extended Security Updates (ESU) for Windows 10, version 22H2 through Microsoft volume licensing, for up to three years after end of support. See Microsoft's Windows 10 end of support page for details.

Windows 10 still makes sense for PCs that can't run Windows 11, or for software that only supports Windows 10. For any PC that meets the Windows 11 requirements, a Windows 11 key is the better long-term choice.

What are the system requirements for Windows 10 Enterprise?

Windows 10 Enterprise runs on almost any PC from the last decade. Microsoft's minimum is a 1 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM for 32-bit or 2 GB for 64-bit, and 32 GB of storage. Unlike Windows 11, it doesn't require TPM 2.0 or a recent processor, which makes it practical for older hardware.

How do I activate Windows 10 Enterprise?

The usual route is to start from Windows 10 Pro. Entering an Enterprise key switches the edition to Enterprise in place, and Microsoft doesn't require a reinstall for this change. On a new PC, install Windows 10 from the download link in your email first.

  1. Check that the PC runs Windows 10 Pro: press Windows + R and run winver.
  2. Open Settings → Update & Security → Activation.
  3. Select Change product key.
  4. Enter the 25-character key from your order email and select Next.
  5. Check that Activation shows Windows 10 Enterprise and says Windows is activated.
  6. Repeat these steps on each PC, up to 20 in total.

Admins can also activate from an elevated Command Prompt with slmgr /ipk YOUR-PRODUCT-KEY followed by slmgr /ato, which makes larger rollouts easy to script.

A common mistake we see is trying this on Windows 10 Home. Microsoft doesn't support switching Home straight to Enterprise with a key, so upgrade to Pro first or do a clean install.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use the same key on all 20 PCs?

Follow your order email. If it gives one key for 20 activations, enter that key on each PC until all 20 are used. If it lists separate keys, use one key per PC. Either way, the licence covers 20 PCs in total.

Can I install Windows 10 Enterprise on a Home PC?

Not directly with a key. Microsoft doesn't support switching from Home to Enterprise by entering a product key. Upgrade the PC to Pro first, or do a clean install of Enterprise using the download link in your order email.

Will Windows 10 keep working after end of support?

Yes. Windows 10 keeps running and can still be activated with this key. What stops is regular security updates and support from Microsoft, so the PC becomes more exposed over time unless it is enrolled in Extended Security Updates.

What if I need more than 20 PCs later?

Buy an additional licence for each extra PC. Once all 20 activations in this pack are used, further PCs need their own licence. For a growing fleet, it helps to keep a record of which PC used which activation.
